Robert Preston MacKenzie, Jr., age 85, a resident of 106 Meadow Road, Mac’s Woods, Washington, NC died Friday morning August 19, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2011 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Washington officiated by Father Eric Zubler.

Mr. MacKenzie was born in Beaufort County on July 6, 1926, son of the late Robert Preston MacKenzie and Athalia Cotton Tayloe. He graduated from Bolles Military Academy in Jacksonville, FL and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity at UNC. He was a life long member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Bob was an avid outdoorsman. His love for hunting and fishing were second only to the loyalty of a good dog.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Todd MacKenzie of Washington; his sons Robert Preston MacKenzie, III and wife Jeanie of Birmingham, AL and Julian Jordan MacKenzie and his wife Laurel of Washington; his grandchildren Merrill Ward, Whitton Ward, Millie Ward, Jonathan Pearce, and Hannah Pearce; and his sister, Athalia MacKenzie Cooper of Washington. In addition, he is preceded in death by his brother, the Reverend Joshua Tayloe MacKenzie.
