Washington has been selected by North Carolina Amateur Sports to host the ninth-annual Cycle North Carolina spring cycling event. The Spring Ride will be held April 13-15, with more than 1,000 bicyclists anticipated to participate. Cyclists will experience outstanding bicycling routes, waterfront accommodations, quaint Southern culture and many exciting entertainment activities during the event. Washington last hosted the event in 2009.
“Washington provides our participants with a great experience on and off their bikes,” said Chuck Hobgood, president of North Carolina Amateur Sports. “Our cyclists will not only experience great roads and low traffic counts for cycling, but they will get to experience the rich history and Southern charm of Washington and Beaufort County.”
The 2012 event will feature routes of various mileages throughout northeastern Beaufort County. The event is designed for riders of all ages and skill levels. All routes are loop rides and fully supported with rest stops, bike mechanics and event support vehicles.
“Washington has much to offer cyclists, from the hospitality to great scenic routes,” said Ragan Williams, event director. “We are looking forward to partnering with the Washington Tourism Development Authority to coordinate another successful event.”
Event registration has surpassed 450 participants, with said participants coming from 17 states.
The Washington Tourism Development Authority is coordinating the local details for the event. Immediate needs for the event include weekend rental housing and volunteers. If you would like to offer housing or volunteer, contact the WTDA at 252.948.9415.
