Ralph Dempsey Bowen

Ralph Dempsey Bowen, 76, a resident of Plymouth died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Washington County Hospital in Plymouth.

Born July 11, 1935 in Beaufort County, he was the son of the late Dempsey Bruce Bowen and Alma Askew Bowen. Ralph was a retired millwright with Weyerhaeuser Corporation, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Long Acre Chapel Christian Church.

His family includes his wife, Chesta Whitley Bowen of Plymouth; daughter, Amy Bowen Phelps and husband Jeffrey of Roper; son, Ralph Dempsey Bowen Jr. and wife Dana of Southern Pines; sister, Tillie B. Swain and husband Walt of Washington; brother, Bruce Bowen and wife Jackie of Plymouth; grandchildren, Lindsey P. Gerth and husband Chris, Samantha Phelps, Whitley Phelps, Nicholas Phelps, Mackenzie Bowen, Chloe Bowen, Reid Bowen and Collin Bowen.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Long Acre Chapel Christian Church with Thelbert Leggett and Rupert Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth and will received friends at other times at the residence.
