Lynn Wingate Lewis, tourism development director for Washington, recently was elected to a two-year term as president of the North Carolina Travel Industry Association.

NCTIA is the only member-based statewide organization that encompasses all aspects of the tourism industry. NCTIA has a 50-year history of distinguished service to the travel industry by helping its member organizations be prepared, connected, and aware of legislative issues impacting the industry.

NCTIA hosts Tourism Day activities in May with the Legislature to promote an awareness of the economic impact of tourism within the state. In the fall, the association co-hosts an annual tourism leadership conference that provides educational opportunities and a legislative panel with elected officials.

Lewis has served as Washington’s tourism development director for eight years. She earned the designation of tourism marketing professional upon completion of the Southeast Tourism Society’s three-year marketing college.

As president of NCTIA, Lewis will also serve on the North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Travel and Tourism Board. Lewis represents Washington as a member of the Destination Marketing Association of North Carolina, Northeast Commission’s Tourism Committee and the Historic Albemarle Tour.
