The artwork of dozens of students from across Beaufort County will go on public display beginning Sunday during the annual Student Art Show hosted by the Beaufort County Arts Council.

An opening reception is scheduled from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday at the Washington Civic Center gallery. The Student Art Show will run through May 3.

The Arts Council has hosted a student show for more than 30 years and considers this exhibit to be one of its most important annual programs.

“It is an opportunity for young artists to have the experience of seeing their work in a real exhibition, and we try to make it memorable and professional all the while encouraging their efforts to continue making art,” said BCAC Executive Director Joey Toler. “The show also introduces a whole new audience to the Arts Council and the services we provide our community.”

The Student Art Show is sponsored by First South Bank, whose involvement is vital to the show’s success according to Toler.

“This support helps us present a quality exhibit for these young artists and for the public, too.”

First South Bank also awards a cash prize to the outstanding entry by a senior.

The Student Art Show will feature works from Beaufort County students representing kindergarten through high school.

Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The Civic Center is occasionally closed for private functions, so the public is encouraged to call 252-946-2504 in advance to verify gallery hours or for more information.
