Gloria Paige Sawyer

Mrs. Gloria Paige Sparrow Sawyer, age 63, a resident of 6863 Free Union Church Road., Pinetown, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at her home.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2012, at Free Union Free Will Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Harold Swinson. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Church of Christ Cemetery, Ponzer. Forrest Warren, Terry Keech, William Lowe, Howard Rose, Trent Midgette and Freddie Warren will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Friend and Jonathon Sawyer.

Gloria Paige Sparrow Sawyer

Mrs. Paige was born in the Winsteadville community near Belhaven on March 26, 1949, daughter of the late Samuel Thomas Sparrow Jr. and the late Maggie Elizabeth Foreman Sparrow. She attended John A. Wilkinson High School. On May 30, 1965, she married Lloyd “Buddy” Woodrow Sawyer who survives. She was a homemaker and owner/operator of Country Girl Painting and Wallpaper. She attended Free Union Free Will Baptist Church and was a giving person who loved making wood crafts for Bible school, grandchildren and local nursing homes. Mrs. Paige had a sweet, loving, giving spirit for friends and strangers, who she considered her new friends.

Surviving along with her husband Buddy of the home is a son, Lloyd W. Sawyer Jr. and his wife Terry of Washington; a daughter, Sonya Midgette and her husband Steve of Belhaven; three sisters, Judy S. Friend of Belhaven, Jane S. Warren and her husband Billy of Bath and Becky Sparrow of Belhaven; a brother-in-law: Linwood Gray Keech of Pinetown and four grandchildren, Trent Midgette, Kristina Midgette, Megan Sawyer and Ashlan Sawyer. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Thomas “J.T.” Sparrow, and a sister, Carol S. Keech.

The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Free Union Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home.
