Vidant Medical Group recently announced the appointment of three doctors who will serve patients in the Washington area.

Joining the medical practice are Robert McLaurin, Urvi Ghandi and Quoc Phan, according to Travis Douglass, executive vice president and director of Vidant Medical Group.

“We are excited about the addition of such quality physicians … to our network of providers in Beaufort County,” Douglass said in a press release announcing their appointments. “We look forward to working with them in the region to improve access to care for our communities.”

McLaurin, a radiation oncologist, will join the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center this month. He received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Medicine and completed a residency in radiation oncology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

In 2001, McLaurin also received a master’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. He is board certified and has more than 25 years of experience in radiation oncology.

McLaurin is also president and chief executive officer of Precision Radiation Oncology Systems and the director of the Franklin County Cancer Center in Louisburg

Ghandi will join Vidant Internal Medicine, formerly Pamlico Internal Medicine, in Washington this summer.

She received her medical degree from Ross University’s School of Medicine, based in Rosseau in the Commonwealth of Dominica, West Indies, and has spent the past three years completing her internal medicine residency at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, N.J.

In recent years, Ghandi has participated in the Big Brother/Big Sister — Little Brother/Little Sister tutoring program and in various annual food and clothing drives. She has helped disabled patients through aquatic rehabilitation, and she has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.

Phan will also join the staff at Vidant Family Medicine-Chocowinity, formerly Chocowinity Family Care, this summer.

Phan earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn., in 2005 and completed his residency training in family medicine at Duke University in 2008.

Phan comes to Beaufort County from Alaska, however, he spent the early part of his medical career at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville and two years at CarolinaEast Health System in New Bern.

He owns a home in the New Bern area. He is looking forward to returning to eastern North Carolina.

The three will serve on the medical staff at Vidant Beaufort Hospital, formerly Beaufort Regional Medical Center, in Washington.
