Virginia Canady Copeland

Mrs. Virginia “Ginny” Canady Copeland, 80, a resident of 502 Pike Road, Pantego, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the home of her son.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven officiated by her nephews Tim Hayes and Bryan Copeland. Burial will follow at Davis Cemetery.

Tommy Alligood, Anthony Fletcher, Jonathan Fletcher, Eddie Bryant Harris, Colby Meekins, Ernie Radcliff, Todd Waters and Bishop Williams will serve as pallbearers. Stephen Fletcher will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Ms. Ginny (as she was known to family and friends) was born in Pantego March 5, 1932, daughter of the late Walter F. Canady Sr. and Maude Duke Canady. On May 8, 1955, she married Albert Douglas Copeland who preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1989.  She was secretary for Pungo Christian Academy, Myers Fertilizer and bookkeeper for 20 years for Wilkinson Farms. Ms. Ginny was a member of Pike Road Church of Christ and taught Sunday school some years ago.

She is survived by her brother, Vernon C. Canady of Pantego; her son, Tim Copeland and wife Kimberly and their children, Hanna and Haley; her daughter,  Paula Meekins and husband David and their children, Kelsey and Colby, all of Washington, and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Walter F. Canady Jr. and her sisters, Dorothy C. Baxley, Joyce Duke Canady and Cora Canady Bishop.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven and other times at the home.
