Mr. Edwin Marshall “Eddie” Ricks Jr., 75, a resident of 205 Elm St., Pantego, died Friday, April 20, 2012, at his home.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Yeatesville Cemetery officiated by pastors Sam Grist III and Cris Noble. A.W. Cooke, Larry Cooke, W.P. O’Neal Jr., Benjamin Carowan, Guy Shavender Jr. and Ronald Lilley will serve as pallbearers. Essadore Carter, Roger Allen and W.P. O’Neal III will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Ricks was born in Beaufort County on Dec. 18, 1936, son of the late Edwin Marshall Ricks and Eula Rae Eborn Ricks. On Aug. 17, 1963, he married the former Carolyn Cooke, who survives. Mr. Ricks was a 1955 graduate of Plymouth High School and a 1959 graduate of East Carolina College (now East Carolina University) with a BS in physical education and social studies. He was a charter member of Epsilon Mu Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and he participated in other clubs and activities while in college. Mr. Ricks was a former educator, having taught in Conway, S.C., at Bath High School in Beaufort County, Ocracoke High School in Hyde County and Pungo Christian Academy in Belhaven. He also was a farmer until 1994, when poor health caused him to retire. Mr. Ricks served his country in the U.S. Navy Reserve for eight years. He was a member of the former Hebron United Methodist Church in Pantego.

In addition to his wife Carolyn, of the home, Mr. Ricks is survived by a son, Stuart Edwin Ricks and wife Bobbie Jo of Pantego; two daughters, Susan Caroline Byerly and her husband Travis of Churchville, Va., and Sara Elizabeth Ricks of the home, and grandchildren, Robert Hunter Sutton, Lauren Kellie Ricks, Marshall Stuart Ricks and Caroline Michael Byerly.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ricks was preceded in death by an infant son, Mitchell Edward Ricks.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and other times at the home located at 205 Elm St., Pantego, NC 27860.
