Quality pitching, timely hitting and the ability to take advantage of the opposing team’s errors all came to highlight Washington’s 11-0 five-inning victory over Coastal Conference foe White Oak on Tuesday.
The Pam Pack’s Avery Woolard sliced through the Vikings’ lineup as he struck out four and allowed one hit, a two-out single in the first, en route to throwing five scoreless innings to lead Washington (6-12, 4-6) to back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
“It was just a good job by the guys,” Washington coach Ryan Whitney said. “Avery threw well on the mound, he threw strikes and got ground balls like he has done all year.”
At the plate Ryan Hardison went 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Dodge Buck was a perfect 3-3 and drove in a run to lead the Pam Pack assault.
After failing to produce runs with bases loaded and one out in the first, Washington would prove more clutch in the second inning. After Patrick Thompson reached base on a walk, Avery Woolard would join him as he hit an infield single and  was replaced on the bases by pinch-runner Trey Brunson. Matt Dixon attempted to move both runners over with a sac bunt but the Vikings opted to try and make a play at third and threw the ball away allowing Thompson to score.
Will Swain, who went 1-3 with two RBIs, hit a ground out to second that allowed Brunson to score, while Dixon made it home on a Hardison ground out to short to put the Pack ahead 3-0.
After a scoreless fourth, the floodgates opened in the fifth as Washington pieced together a two-out rally that was good for eight runs thanks to five hits and five White Oak errors in an inning that was highlighted by a Hardison double to left-center that traveled nearly 360 feet and brought home Brunson to make it 4-0.
The Pack will be back in action today at 6 p.m. at Riverside.
