On April 10, investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Deequan Jaheed McKinney, 21, of 702 Boston Ave., Washington, following controlled drug buys from McKinney. McKinney was on probation for a similar crime at the time of his arrest.

“We’re very familiar with (McKinney),” said a spokesman for the drug unit. “It’s definitely frustrating when people are on probation and still continue to sell drugs.”

McKinney was placed under a $15,000 secured bond.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit, along with the Beaufort County unit, arrested another man in separate incident on April 12. According to a press release, investigators from both counties arrested Avery Lamont Williams Jr., 24, of 1177 Middle St., Jamesville, on Martin County warrants.

“At (the time of his arrest) we didn’t have any warrants on him. We took warrants out while he was in custody,” said a spokesman from the Beaufort County Drug Unit.

According to the spokesman, investigators here had made controlled drug buys from Williams while he was residing in the area.

Once incarcerated in the Bertie Martin County Regional Jail, Williams was served additional warrants for controlled drug buys from the local unit.

From Martin County, Williams faces a total of four charges each of possession with intent sell cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a dwelling to facilitate the drug sales, according to the press release. From the Beaufort County, Williams is charges with possession with intent to sell cocaine, possession with intent to sell MDA/MDMA (Ecstasy) and two counts of drug paraphernalia.

“We’re able to work with other counties to get these guys,” said the Beaufort County drug unit representative. “We’re able to pool our resources, share information. It’s common to see people from Pitt County come into Beaufort County to sell drugs, and vice versa.”
