Melvin Armistead Hollidge

Melvin Armistead Hollidge, of Greeley, Colo., died on April 30, 2012, at North Colorado Medical Center in the Hospice unit. He was born June 20, 1940, in Boston, Mass., to Melvin Spedden and Alice Byrd (Armistead) Hollidge.

On Sept. 4, 1971, he married Beth Ann Chamberlain in Somersworth, N.H. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint, Ashcroft Ward, in Greeley, where he served as a High Priest.

Melvin attended school and graduated from Wichita Falls Senior High School in Wichita Falls, Texas. After graduation he attended Columbia Preparatory School in Washington, D.C., for two years. He then attended New England College in Henniker, N.H, where he received his bachelor degree. After graduation, he worked at Comolli Equipment Company. Later, he was a realtor, specializing in country properties. He then worked for Oxford Health Insurance in Hooksett, N.H. The family moved to Greeley in 2008.

Melvin loved to read and be outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, hiking and travelling. He had an uncanny wit and enjoyed teasing. He loved visiting with all he met.

Melvin is survived by his wife Beth Hollidge of Greeley; daughter Catherine Ann Hollidge of Greeley; son Melvin Chamberlain (Jennifer) Hollidge of Concord, N.H.; sister Susan (Clifton) McFarland of Chocowinity, N.C.; three grandchildren, Riley, Bentley and Teagan.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. today at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2116 23rd Ave., Greeley. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
