WINTERVILLE—Pitt Community College softball player Amanda Daw will continue her playing career at Campbell University next season, after signing a letter-of-intent to play with the Fighting Camels this spring.
Daw, a sophomore second baseman from Pantego, was part of PCC’s 2011 squad that finished 49-9 overall and made it to the NJCAA Division I Fast-Pitch Softball Championship in Utah. This year’s team advanced to the final day of the Region X Conference Tournament before finishing with a 33-17 record.
In her sophomore campaign with the Bulldogs, Daw batted .319 with 14 runs batted in. She tallied 61 hits—including seven doubles, a pair of triples and a home run—and stole 21 bases to go along with a .950 fielding percentage.
“Amanda was this team’s heart and soul,” said PCC softball coach Junior Bailey. “I’ve never seen a student-athlete like Amanda Daw; she truly was the glue that kept our team together all season.”
When Daw was a freshman, Bailey took the unusual step of making the Northside High School product a team captain—and she excelled in the role. He said her leadership skills further developed during her second season with Pitt
“She rallied our team numerous times this year and got her teammates to focus on what was important,” Bailey said.
“Anyone who has watched Amanda play knows she loves the game of softball and that she demonstrates her love for the game through her actions on the field and through her interactions with her teammates.”
