The Moore County Historical Society had an excellent tour of Little Washington given by three members of the Washington Area Historic Foundation. The tour ended on East Second Street in a beautiful home, where we had refreshments. Many, many thanks.

It would be interesting to see the counts from the recent elections — countywide and statewide — especially the vote on the president and no preference. You can’t find that anywhere. I’ve Google searched it and cannot find it. I’d like to know how that vote came out. I believe no preference may have won.

Will we independents who voted Democrat in the May 8 primaries now get to vote Republican in the rerun of the Republican primaries?

I don’t know who made the decision to switch the voting from the Pinetown Ruritan building to the Pinetown fire department, but it was a big mistake. It was cramped. There was no privacy in the little room that we had to go into. I wonder could there have been a larger area in the fire department that could have been used, or could we next time we move back to the Ruritan building? The fire department just didn’t work with that little room.

County board Chairman Jerry Langley has demanded a do-over for economic development. At the May 7, 2012, county board meeting, it was decided that the next economic developer will be a member of the county manager’s staff, hired by the county manager and reporting solely to the county manager. As a county employee, the development officer will need to be a county resident. The new economic developer will consult with, but be independent from, community organizations, other than the Beaufort County staff and Beaufort County Board of Commissioners. Well done, Mr. Langley.
