John C. Roelofs Jr.

Mr. John Christian “JC” Roelofs Jr., age 72, a resident of 8734 N. Boyd Rd., Pinetown, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012, at his home. He now goes peacefully and happily to join Gail, his wife of 52 years, in heaven. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Roelofs was born in Pinetown on November 19, 1939. On November 8, 1959, he married Gail VanBodegraven. After graduating high school, JC enlisted in the Air Force and served at Mitchell Field, N.Y., where he met Gail. After his term in the Air Force, he joined Long Island Lighting Company and was featured in Life magazine for his house he transformed into an all-electric house. After a brief business adventure with his cousin in Virginia, he moved his family to Arizona to work as an electrician in a copper mine and open his own electrical contracting business. Longing to be back home in North Carolina, he returned to the family farm and employment with Weyerhaeuser. He retired in 2003 to cherish and enjoy what he loved most — family, friends and life on the farm.

Surviving children include two daughters, Cynthia Jean Roelofs of Pinetown, Katherine R. Suggs and husband Garland of Greenville, S.C.; three sons, John C. Roelofs III and wife Rose of Fredericksburg, Va., Ricky Roelofs and wife Gwen of Garner and Paul Roelofs and Betty of Wilson.

Surviving siblings include Betty Harrison of Washington and Rosemary Standhardt, Nick Roelofs, Butch Roelofs, Terry Roelofs, Donald Roelofs and Jackie Roelofs of Michigan.
