Mitchell StClair Jr., 37, of Sharon Court, Washington is wanted by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office for a May 13 assault on a mother and daughter. According to Major Kenneth Watson of the sheriff’s office, a neighbor called in the assault as it was occurring. Before deputies arrived at the home on Whichard’s Beach Road in Chocowinity, StClair had fled the scene on foot.

The woman, the suspect’s girlfriend, had multiple lacerations on her face from StClair repeatedly hitting her with a handgun, and a blow during the assault resulted in swelling on the child’s head, said Watson. Both victims were treated at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

StClair is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, second degree kidnapping, assault inflicting serious bodily injury, possession of a firearm by felon, assault on a child under 12, assault by pointing a gun, assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present, and communicating threats.

StClair is still at large and the sheriff’s office considers him armed and dangerous.

“Anytime someone commits an assault with a firearm and flees the scene, we have to assume he is still in possession of the firearm,” said Watson.

StClair was last arrested in January  on three outstanding orders for arrest on grand jury indictments, as well as possession with intent to sell. Marijuana.

The press release requests that anyone with information on StClair’s whereabouts is asked to call the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at 252-946-7111 or Beaufort County Crime Stoppers at 252-974-6400. Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1,000.00 reward for information leading to his arrest. Callers do not have to give their name to receive a reward.
