Courtney Nicole Leffelman, a graduating senior at Washington High School, has received the Patrick Brian Olson Memorial Scholarship.

The 2012 scholarship provides funds for use toward Leffelman’s academic expenses.

The scholarship, awarded annually since 1992, is available to a qualifying Washington High School senior desiring to pursue an education at a four-year university or college, or a two-year junior college or community college. The scholarship is awarded based on academic service and leadership potential.

Leffelman has participated in numerous school and community activities, including being a member of the National Honor Society, participating in student government and receiving awards in math and English. She is the daughter of Kimberly Davenport and Dale Leffelman of Washington. She plans to continue her education at East Carolina University and study nutrition science.

U.S. Air Force Capt. Patrick Olson was a 1983 graduate of Washington High School and a 1987 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. On Feb. 27, 1991, he died in the Persian Gulf War. His family, friends and community contribute to the scholarship fund.
