Colon “Rufus” Alligood Jr.

Major Colon “Rufus” Alligood Jr., 39, a resident of 140 Alligood Drive, Washington, died Saturday, May 26, 2012.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Alligood Church of God, Mill Hole Road, Washington, conducted by Pastor Phillip Jethro. Burial will follow in the Alligood family cemetery on Lizard Slip Road.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Billy Boyd, Ray Scott, Robert Midgett, Skip Midgett Jr., Paul Alligood, Ryan Alligood, Britt Alligood and Torrey Jefferson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Woolard, Ted Woolard, Harry Lee Mann, Stetson Mann, Perry Hardison, Stan Hardison, Chubby Woolard and Toby Woolard.

“Rufus” was born in Beaufort County on Feb. 4, 1973. He was the son of Major Colon Alligood Sr. and Carol Midgett Alligood. “Rufus” was a 1991 graduate of Washington High School. He was owner and operator of Colon Alligood Landscaping. In his spare time, “Rufus” loved being outdoors, hunting and working in the yard. He was a past member of the Southern Dismal Wildlife Club. “Rufus never met a stranger and always had an open and giving heart.”

In addition to his parents, “Rufus” is survived by two daughters, Kayla Alligood and Chloe Alligood, both of Washington; his sister, Amanda Alligood of Washington; Kayla’s mother, Amy Alligood of Washington and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

“Above all, he loved his little girls with all his heart.”

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. today at Alligood Church of God and other times at the home of his parents, Major and Carol Alligood, 150 Alligood Drive, Washington.
