After 20-some years of Beaufort County having summer camp for our children, I have just learned there will be no summer camp this year. Would you please ask, via your wonderful paper, what the Beaufort County Arts Council really does for its county anymore? The programs are not there. The people who are running the office are not friendly when you go in for information, what information you can even get out of them, and they appear to not be introducing anything new. I really think that our children, as well as our county, is worthy of better representation than what they have been doing for some time now.

 

I had the pleasure of being in the Civic Center May 20. It was a banquet for basketball coach Dave Smith and many of his former players. The guest speaker was Phil Ford, the former UNC All-American point guard. At first, I didn’t want to spend my Sunday afternoon with a bunch of ex-jocks. But that changed quickly. My good friend Lee Drake was the master of ceremonies. His special blend of humor, charm and sports knowledge made the afternoon complete. God bless you, Coach Smith. Your tribute was way overdue.
