Summer Festival fun

We are still 17 days away from the summer solstice, but why wait on summer fun.

Thanks to the generosity of PotashCorp-Aurora and other sponsors, the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce will host the 2012 Washington Summer Festival this coming Friday and Saturday along the waterfront.

Without a doubt, Summer Festival is the biggest event on the calendar in the city of Washington and Beaufort County, and it takes the commitment of everyone to make it happen.

“This isn’t just a chamber effort, it is a community effort,” chamber executive director Catherine Glover said in her column today.

When the gates open at 5 p.m. Friday, patrons of all ages may enjoy amusement rides, food booths and arts and crafts. Beginning at 7 p.m., the Craig Woolard Band will be performing on the Festival Park stage.

Summer Festival kicks into overdrive Saturday with everything from a Kids Zone and Blockfest to a fishing tournament and live music from the Victor Hudson Band and Jupiter Jones.

Even if you attend out of sheer curiosity, Summer Festival is a great way to show your support for the community we share. Join your family, friends and neighbors at Summer Festival this coming weekend.
