The Beaufort County Board of Commissioners took action on a variety of issues Monday night. In other action, the board:

• Voted unanimously to approve a contract with Manatron Inc., of Austin, Texas, to convert documents at the county’s register-of-deeds office to digital records, including the redaction of personal identifying information on existing images. The total cost of the project, including an increase in annual support fees, is $74,043. The first phase of the project will involve records that are about 20 years old and will allow a computer search of those records by the public, the commissioners were told.
• Voted unanimously to add a home at Pamlico Beach to the county’s 2010 Community Development Block Grant-Economic Recovery Project, and, in a related matter, voted unanimously to amend a contract with Holland Consulting Planners Inc., in the amount of $9,000 to oversee the project.
• Voted unanimously to buy HP Tablet PCs at the cost of $790 each to allow the commissioners and some members of the county’s staff to convert Board of Commissioners agendas from paper agendas to electronic ones.
• Voted 6-1 to approve $7,125.75 in travel requests, with Commissioner Hood Richardson casting the sole dissenting vote. The travel requests included $702 in expenses for four county commissioners and the county manager to attend County Assembly Day in Raleigh in May.
• Voted unanimously to appropriate $4,324.94 from county funds for an emergency generator to provide electricity to the county’s animal shelter during natural disasters. The county funds will be matched by a $31,500 grant from the state. The project is part of an effort by area emergency-management officials to have all emergency shelters fully operational with generator support.
• Voted unanimously to approve a contract with Central Carolina Holdings LLC for scrap tire recycling and disposal. Under terms of the contract, the county will pay $50 per ton for disposal and $325 per load freight and a fuel surcharge if fuel exceeds $2 per gallon.
• Voted unanimously to approve a contract with Ad-Vantage One of Belhaven to advertise, within a $12,000 to $15,000 budget, events that are part of the county’s tricentennial celebration. In a related matter, the commissioners voted unanimously to approve a $4,500 contract with East Coast Pyrotechnics Inc. to provide fireworks in Washington on Sept. 22 as part of the celebration.
• Voted unanimously to approve a lease with Weyerhaeuser Co. in the amount of $1,500 to operate a garbage-disposal site near Cox’s Crossroads.
• Voted unanimously to refund a $75 fee for a food-establishment permit to Wilke’s Food Concessions. The owner was unable to attend the Aurora Fossil Festival because of medical reasons.
• Voted 5-2 against a request for a fee increase schedule for health-care services from the Beaufort County Health Department. Commissioners Richardson and Stan Deatherage cast votes in favor of the fee increase.
• Voted unanimously to retire a .40-caliber firearm and badge used by Deputy Royce Hamm, who retired from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office on May 12.
