Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

Mercer may say it’s not proper for the citizens of Washington to pay for county residents to play in the city. In the same turn, it wasn’t proper for the city to give all city residents a discount on electricity and not give the county anything. So, we’re paying for anything the county has to offer, which ain’t much of nothing.

I’m calling in response to the Sound Off about the Beaufort County Arts Council. After 40 years of serving its community, it’s had an event almost every month or show or exhibit. It has the art show, the photography, the music festival, the members’ show, the student art show. It’s done nothing but support the local community and drive revenues up around town. It’s supported Hyde and Washington counties, and everyone who works in its office has been diligently trying to set up shows and exhibits that provide for the community for years now. It did not do Art Camp this year because it interfered with all the different events. It will be doing it again next year, but it has done nothing but help our community and support local arts in a time when not many people are focusing. I think that that is something that needs to be addressed.
