Bayview County Church will hold a car-show fundraiser Saturday to benefit the church’s pastor, Greg Hornbuckle.

Organizer Frank Fuller said Hornbuckle, a husband and father of two, was left with more than $70,000 in medical bills after a recent illness.

“His kidneys quit on him, and he doesn’t have insurance,” Fuller said.

The Bath Showdown car show will be presented at the Ormond Amphitheatre, 3536 N.C. Highway 92 East. It is free to the public.

The Bath Showdown is the church’s first car-show fundraiser, but Fuller plans to make it an annual event with its proceeds to benefit other worthy causes.

The charity event will raise funds through donations and a $20 registration fee for each participant. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., and awards will be presented at 3 p.m.

Fuller said response to the event is great. Hornbuckle has a Harley-Davidson motorcycle he shows at similar events. Car, motorcycle and truck clubs from Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina are expected to participate in the car show.

Fuller said the show would be a family event.

“There will be a watermelon-eating contest, tug-of-war and jump castle to keep the kids busy,” he said. “And the women of the church will be doing the cooking. Nothing’s better than church food.”
