George T. “Sonny” High, a resident of 484 Kirby Grange Ave., Bath, died Thursday, June 7, 2012, at 2:55 a.m.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. High was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Washington, and graduated from Washington High School and East Carolina University. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Following his military service, he entered the insurance business, eventually owning an independent agency office in Chapel Hill. He was a member of Bath Christian Church. Mr. High enjoyed golf, fishing, crabbing and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Kilby High, and is survived by two sons, Tom and wife Beth of Chapel Hill, and Jay and wife Janie of Prescott, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Georgia, Evan and Jeremiah.
