Mr. Bert Nicholson Hodges Sr., 80, a resident of 429 East 12th St., Washington, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at his home.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Derik Davis. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Mel Keech, Van Respess, Kenny Johnson, Eric Cahoon, Mack Hodges Jr. and Roland Woolard.

Mr. Hodges was born in Pitt County on March 21, 1932. He was the son of the late Mack C. Hodges and Nettie Mobley Hodges. Mr. Hodges was a retired mechanic/technician with Generator & Starter Repairs in Washington. He retired after 46 years of service. Mr. Hodges was a former member of the Washington Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

On July 16, 1955, Mr. Hodges married the former Nina Cutler Boyd, who survives.

Surviving with his wife are his children, Gay Keech and her husband Mel of Belhaven, Susan Cahoon and Van Respess of Greenville, Bert Nicholson Hodges Jr. of Raleigh; three sisters, Jane Buck of Grimesland and Ann Hemby and Barbara Wingate, both of Ayden; one brother, Mack Hodges Sr. of Washington; and three grandchildren, Kenny Johnson, Samantha Keech and Eric Cahoon.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Summerlin and two brothers, Adrian Earl Hodges and Carry Lee Hodges.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. today at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.
