Edwin Allen Cox, 45, a resident of 1513 Carolina Ave., Washington, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at his home.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, officiated by Minister Derik Davis. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Tetterton, Leslie Tetterton, Simon Wright, Patrick Bouquio, Brad Bouquio, Justin Cox, Mike Remick and Chris Elks. Honorary pallbearers will be Noah Griffin, Joseph Howard, Christopher Rawls and Harry Waters.

Edwin was born in Beaufort County on Sept. 17, 1966. He was the son of James Luther Cox and Virginia Everett Cox. He attended Washington High School and continued his education at Beaufort County Community College where he completed his studies in nursing assistant and welding. Edwin worked at the former Britthaven of Washington as a nurse’s assistant and more recently at Flanders Filters as a welder. He had a passion for playing the guitar and wildlife. He was currently developing a skill and talent of woodworking.

Edwin is survived by his parents, James and Virginia Cox of the home; his fiancee, Debbie Cochran of Williamston; two sons, Timothy  Wayne Cox and Johnnie Ray Holton, both of Washington; a brother, James Ottis Cox and his fiancee Darla Cook of Washington; a sister, Darleen Cox Rawls and her companion Lee Smith of Washington and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Edwin was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James Ottis Cox and Katie Woolard Cox and his maternal grandparents, Virgil and Vonnie Everett.

The family received friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Monday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of Edwin’s parents, 1513 Carolina Ave., Washington.
