Steelion “Steele” Chase Whichard earned the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Award. The son of Crystal W. Andrew and Steven Whichard of Washington is Senior Patrol leader of Troop 99 sponsored by the Washington First United Methodist Church. For his Eagle project, Steele recognized the need for landscaping of the Washington Moose Lodge no. 1800. The landscaping included preparing flowerbeds for knockout roses, monkey grass and an assortment of shrubs; lighting and planting shrubs at the entrance sign; and drainage across the back of the building. Steele, 17, graduated from the Early College program at Beaufort County Community College in May with a high school diploma and an associate’s degree and plans to attend NCSU in 2013.
