Vaun Archie Newill, 88, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, in Dover, Del.
The son of James Theodore Newill and Stella Edna Riley in Mount Pleasant, Pa., Born on Nov. 11, 1923. He was a graduate of Juniata College with additional degrees from University of Pittsburgh and Harvard University.
Dr. Newill had a distinguished career in Medicine and Public Health on the faculty of Case Western Reserve University; in government service with the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and the Environmental Protection Agency; as well as in occupational medicine with Exxon Corporation, including serving as Medical Director for Esso Europe. Vaun finished his full time working career with a Presidential appointment as the Assistant Administrator for Research and Development in the Environmental Protection Agency.
Dr. Newill was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in both World War II and the Korean War.
In his retirement, Vaun was active in his retirement community and served as a Trustee for Presbyterian Senior Living. He enjoyed travel, family and friends, genealogy, fishing and  involvement in his church.
Vaun leaves behind his wife of almost 57 years, Janet Cady Newill; daughter Nancy Newill Clagett, her husband Christopher Douglas Clagett and their children Heather Marie Clagett, Amanda Rose Clagett and Vaun Alexander Clagett; son James Frederick Newill, his wife Maria Paris Newill and their children Nicholas Paris Newill and Charles Paris Newill; son William Vaun Newill, his wife Kristen Fink Newill and their children Michael William Newill, Andrew David Newill and Patrick James Newill.

Services are being planned in Oxford Presbyterian Church, Oxford, Pa., on Aug. 11 and  the Mt. Joy Church of the Brethren, Mount Pleasant, Pa., on Aug. 18.
