Youth compete in livestock show and sale

News Release
The 54th-annual 4-H and FFA Livestock Show and Sale was held recently with youth competing to be grand champions in hogs, goats, steer, lambs and tractor driving.
The cooperative extension recently released the following results.
“Best body in the barn”: Emily Waters’ pig, sponsored by Tidewater Animal Hospital.
Hog show
Grand champion and reserve champion showman, junior division: Cameron Howell. Purchased by Roanoke Farm Supply and Howell Farms.
Reserve champion and senior showmanship reserve champion: Ragan LeFever, purchased by BB&T, Shavender Trucking and Weyco Community Credit Union.
Champion showman: Kendra VanStaalduinen; hog purchased by Murphy-Brown, LLC.
Grand champion showman, junior division: Sierra Johnston; animal was purchased by Nationwide Insurance, Helena Chemical Co., and The Chicken Coop.
Other participants: Chris Askew, Jenny Askew, Blaine Griekspoor, Daniel Howell, Caroline Lee, Hannah McGowan, Owen Price, Megan Smith, Jayna VanStaalduinen, Wilson VanStaalduinen, Emily Waters, Jack White and Jordan White.
Goat show
Grand champion and reserve champion senior showman banner: Zach Cuthrell, animal sold to Washington County Farm Bureau.
Reserve champion: Jenna Davenport. Purchased by BB&T, Arrant’s Logging, Firm Foundation Homes and Weyco Community Credit Union.
Grand champion showman, senior division: Ragan LeFever. Her goat was sold to Washington County Farm Bureau and East Coast Equipment.
Grand champion showman, junior division: Isaiah Boyd. He received the winning bid from Foxfire Farms, Beaufort County Farm Bureau, Country Kitchen and Dr. David Elliot.
Reserve champion banner, junior division: Lilly Lobos. CPS–Belhaven, Frank’s Pizza, Kendra Lobos, Slade Landscaping, Katherine Cutler, Stocks’ Farm, Anne Martin, Brenda Evans and LaRue Alligood purchased the animal.

Steer show
Grand champion and reserve champion senior showman: Phillip Waters. The 1,135-pound steer was sold to A&W Sales, Foxfire Farms, McCall’s Construction,and Beaufort County Farm Bureau.
Reserve champion and grand champion senior showman: Melinda Boyd, who sold her animal to Crop Production Services.
Grand champion junior showman: Madison Boyd. Her steer was sold to Coastal Cotton Gin, Carolina Cotton Coop. and Foxfire Farms.
Reserve champion: Caroline Lee, who’s steer sold to North Slope Farms.
Lamb show
Grand champion: Megan Smith, whose lamb was purchased by Southside Stables, Brandon and Jodi Dail, Jimmy Harrison, Telephone Connection, Linda Banks, Joseph Pilgreen and Sons, and Jean Canady.
Reserve champion and grand champion junior showman: Corey Goss. Purchased by Brown’s Land Development, Reynold’s Plumbing and Premium Painting.
Grand champion showman, senior division: Caitlin Goss. Her lamb was sold to Southeast Fabricators and Cabral Concrete.
Reserve champion lamb senior showman: Megan Smith.
Reserve champion lamb junior showman: Reagan Glass. The lamb was purchased by Crop Production Services, Bethany Farms, Helena Chemical Co. and Coastal Agrobusiness.

Tractor driving
First place: Garrett Boyd with Northside High School FFA; second place: Austin Phelps from Creswell High School FFA; and third place: Rosario Lopez from Creswell FFA.
Trophies were sponsored by Lilley International Inc. and Washington County Farm Bureau. The tractor for the contest was loaned by East Coast Equipment.
Lawn-mower driving
Nine-10 division: First place, Kathleen Slade; second place, Caroline Boyd.
Eleven-13 division: First place, Madison Boyd; second, Isaiah Boyd; third, Cameron Howell.
Trophies were sponsored by Chase’s Home Improvements, Creswell Furniture, Washington County Soil and Water Conservation District supervisors, Sentry Exterminating, LeFever Trucking and Washington County Farm Bureau.
