Frances W. Newcomb

Mrs. Frances Woolard Newcomb, 77, a resident of 91 Harlan Drive, Washington, died at the home of her brother on Sunday afternoon, July 15, 2012.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, officiated by Mike Caton. Michael Woolard, Steven Woolard, Jerry Woolard Jr., Robert Cox, Jason Paul and Lloyd Goodbred will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Newcomb was born in Beaufort County on Sept. 5, 1934, daughter of the late Fenner Vernon Woolard Sr. and Retha Gurganus Woolard. She was married to Clarence Lee Newcomb who preceded her in death shortly after his retirement from the U.S. Army. Mrs. Newcomb was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ. She was a homemaker who loved to crochet, knit and a beloved babysitter for many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her brothers,  Fenner V. Woolard Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., Phil O. Woolard of Chesapeake, Va., and Jerry W. Woolard of Washington; and her sisters, Dera Mae Silverthorne and Sue W. Woolard, both of Washington.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Johnnie Goodbred, and brothers, Henry L. Woolard, Robert Woolard and Donald B. Woolard.

The family will receive friends at the home of her brother, Jerry W. Woolard, 71 Harlan Drive, Washington.
