Mary Clark Wall

Mrs. Mary Clark Wall, a resident of Carolina Ave., Chocowinity, NC, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012 surrounded by her loving family and friends. A celebration of her life will be Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church officiated by The Rev. Joseph “Sonny” Browne and Deacon Joy Dosher. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery. Markey Burroughs, Bobby Clark, Ron Clark, Everett Duncan, Tim Eldred, Walter Elks, Logan Whitehurst and Chad Wilcox will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Friday, July 20, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy. 264 E., Washington, NC. The family will also receive friends immediately following the service in the church Parish Hall. The family will also welcome friends at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Jean Clark, 100 Raccoon Run, Washington, NC.
Mary,  “Sweet Mama”, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was born in Beaufort County on October 25, 1929 daughter of the late Glenn T. and Clara Denby Clark. She attended Chocowinity High School and East Carolina Teachers College. On September 4, 1948 she married the love of her life, J.B. Wall, who preceded her in death in 1998. Mary worked for The Bank of Washington for over 30 years and had previously worked with the Department of Social Services.  She also worked with the ASCS office with the local tobacco markets. Mary was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church having served on the vestry and various church committees. She helped form the Boosters Club of Beaufort County, was past president of the local Red Cross Chapter and was instrumental in bringing the first traffic light to Chocowinity. She also formed the committee that built the Chocowinity Community Center and the street where it is located is named in her honor.
Mary is survived by her son, Joe Wall (Sylvia) of Chesterfield, VA, her granddaughters, Dr. Martha Wall-Whitfield (Jawanza), and their children, Maya and Aaron, of Chester, VA, Melisa Packett (James) and their children, Jenna and Hannah, of Chesterfield and her grandson Michael Wall (Christina) and their children Matthew and Julia of Mt. Airy, MD. She is also survived by her sister, Pearl Perdue of Chapel Hill, her brother, Ronnie Clark (Jean) of Washington, her adopted sons, Greg Purser and Everett Duncan of Chocowinity and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her faithful companion Samantha, her ‘Pumpkin’. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by one sister,  Margie Burroughs, and her brother- in-law, Hugh Burroughs and Fred Perdue.
