Washington Fire-Rescue-EMS, police and N.C. State Highway Patrol rushed to the scene of an a two vehicle accident between a motorcycle and truck around 12:45 p.m. today.

The accident occurred in the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 17 North outside of Washington near the highway patrol office, just yards away from the intersection with U.S. Highway 17 Business. In the aftermath, the orange Ducati motorcycle lay on its side in the center median of the highway among scattered bit of metal. The driver’s side rear panel of a dark blue GMC Canyon truck was crushed where the collision occurred.

Trooper Laura Peele said the 62-year-old motorcycle driver was transported to Vidant Beaufort Hospital with injuries, though they were not life-threatening. The couple driving the truck appeared to be shaken up. Washington EMS officers later transported the woman to the hospital, as well.

Peele declined to give more details of the accident, citing that the investigation was ongoing.

At the intersection of Highway 17 Business, a Good Samaritan had parked his truck and was directing traffic. A former military police officer, David E. Williams Jr. said he was just doing his civic duty by stopping to help out. An EMS officer on the scene said that traffic on the highway only minimally slowed down while they were working.
