While I was sitting on the church steps and resting from a walk, a young policeman stopped his vehicle and asked me if I was all right. I want to thank him for being so thoughtful.

I have been a subscriber to the Washington Daily News for almost 40 years, and I have no complaints with it. But it gets kind of sickening that every time you pick up the paper, someone is complaining about what it didn’t do or what it did do. And to a subscriber like that: stop getting the paper or stop putting our paper down.

If someone were selling drugs to my granddaughter, I would hope he or she would have choked on the plastic bag containing the drugs.

I completely agree with your editorial in Thursday’s paper, the one that urged folks to get educated about the issues in the upcoming election. Some unbiased reporting in the WDN would go a long way toward achieving that end.

Just wondering why you can’t find room in the paper to publish the daily horoscopes?

When you “educate” yourself on the candidates, remember there are more requirements in North Carolina to get a driver’s license than there are to run for office. A person may be illiterate, never worked a day in his or her life and have an extensive criminal record and still be able to run for office. The Democrats and Republicans will try to convince you that being a member of their particular party is more important than any of these qualifications.

Regarding the Daily News issue of Thursday, July 19: Gene Lyons becomes more idiotic with every column he writes. The one on Thursday really takes the cake.
