Philip Hobson Burbage

Mr. Philip Hobson Burbage, age 88, a former resident of Island View Road, Bath, NC, died Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Sterling House of Greenville.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, July 23, 2012 at St. Clair’s Church of Christ and will be conducted by Rev. Dave Pryor and Chris Williams. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Sean Burbage, Chris Burbage, Brian Burbage, Ryan Godsell, Philip Steven Burbage and Rory Godsell will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Burbage was born in Beaufort County on May 18, 1924 to the late Dewey and Amanda Brinn Burbage. On January 18, 1947 he married Robbie Dean Dixon who preceded him in death on March 9, 2010. He was a graduate of Bath High School, served in the United States Navy, worked for the Federal Government at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, VA and retired from Sperry Marine Systems as a Marine Engineer. Mr. Burbage was a member of St. Clair’s Church of Christ and was a former member of the Kempsville Church of Christ in Virginia Beach, VA where he served as deacon.
Survivors include four sons; P. Edward Burbage and wife Karen of Charleston, SC, Barry Burbage and wife Beth of Baltimore, MD, Steve Burbage of Virginia Beach, VA, Tom Burbage and wife Carolyn of Sky Top, PA, a daughter; Robin Godsell and husband Randy of Belhaven; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Bonnie B. Speece and Becky Burbage; a grandchild: Benton French Speece, III and two brothers; Forest Burbage and Peter Burbage.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven.
