Sweltering, scorching or sizzling — take your pick. It’s just plain hot. Make that HOT!
A heat advisory for Beaufort County and eastern North Carolina is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service’s office in Newport. Heat-index values are expected to range from 105 degrees to 115 degrees this afternoon and early evening.
High pressure offshore and a trough of low pressure inland will produce a southwest flow of hot and humid weather across the area through Saturday. A front is forecast to stall and dissipate over the area this weekend into early next week.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room or stay in the shade if possible.
