Dance for Eagle’s Wings

It should come as no surprise that poverty — and with it hunger — continues to be a daily struggle for a significant portion of the population in Beaufort County.
For nearly 23 years, Eagle’s Wings has led the charge against hunger with a mission of “Christian love in action.” Whether through donations or volunteering, supporters of the Washington-based food pantry work tirelessly to see to it that our neighbors and friends do not go without.
You, too, can join this crusade against hunger by attending the fifth-annual Dancing With OUR Stars to be held Aug. 11 at the Washington High School Performing Arts Center. A matinee will be held at 4 p.m., with an evening show at 8 p.m.
In its fifth year, Dancing With OUR Stars is not only the largest yearly fundraiser for Eagle’s Wings, it also helps support other nonprofit organizations in the county.
Businesses, schools and nonprofit groups organize teams that will dance to the music of Hollywood and Broadway. They also sell tickets and solicit donations.
Trophies are presented to the three teams that raise the most money, while the nonprofits share their donations with Eagle’s Wings.
Under the direction of Janet Cox and her dancers from Le Moulin Rouge De Danse, performers are hard at work learning their routines for the show. The program includes teams from Washington Therapy, Literacy Volunteers of Beaufort County, Ruth’s House, Washington High School Dancers, Mid-East Commission/Washington Parks and Recreation Department, Chocowinity Primary School, Washington Montessori Public Charter School, Carolina Girls, WITN, Le Moulin Rouge De Danse Cuties, Riley and Raven Simpson, Beaufort County Community College, Eagle’s Wings and Men ’n a Chord. Chances are that someone you know will be performing.
Ticket prices for the 4 p.m. show are $10 per person for general admission or $20 per person for a VIP ticket. Prices for the 8 p.m. show jump to $20 (general admission) or $40 (VIP) per person. Tickets are available at the Beaufort County Arts Council, Artisan’s Market, River Walk Gallery, Amy’s Hallmark, Le Moulin Rouge De Danse and Eagle’s Wings.
Mark your calendar and purchase your ticket for this year’s Dancing With OUR Stars. You will have a good time and feel good for it.
