Mattie W. Black

Mrs. Mattie W. Black, age 95, a resident of Ridgewood Manor and a former resident of Black Rd., Washington, NC, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, July 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Tony Krantz. Music will be provided by organist  Jo Ann Krantz. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Doug Black, Mark Black, Taylor Black, Wayne Black, Doug Boyd, Dal Latham, Rickie Pastz, Jesse Respess, Josh Respess and Jim Woolard will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends, Friday, July 27, 2012, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy. 264 E., Washington, NC. The family will also welcome friends at the home of her son, Ottis Franklin “Frankie” Black, 576 Black Rd., Washington, NC.
Mattie was born in Beaufort County on November 22, 1916, daughter of the late Ottis Winfield and Martha Boyd Woolard. She married Floyd Milburn Black in September 1935 who preceded her in death in October 1968. Mattie was a member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ, Ruth Circle, Senior Bible Class, and a former member of the Bunyan Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Bunyan Ruritan Club Ladies Auxiliary and a volunteer at Beaufort County Hospital.
Mattie is survived by her sons, Phillip Milburn Black and Ottis Franklin “Frankie” Black and wife Peggy Pendleton Black of Washington, sister, Mary W. Mills, brother, Harold E. Woolard and wife Beulah of Washington, daughters-in-law, Joann T. Black, Peggy E. Black and Barbara H. Black, 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sons, Wayland Boyd Black, Cedric Wayne Black and Gerald Winfield Black, her sisters, Alva Thorne Woolard Douglas and Hilda W. Latham, her brothers, Charlie Walter Woolard, William “Billy” Woolard, and Ottis Boyd “O.B.” Woolard and daughter-in-law Peggy W. Black
