Washington Police-Fire Department recognized the winner of the 2012 National Night Out essay contest Wednesday. Essay contest winners were announced at National Night Out festivities on Aug. 14, but Brylee McKenna Phillips of Washington met with officials this week to receive her award and prize. Brylee met with Kimberly Grimes, WPD’s crime prevention and community outreach coordinator, and Officer Chris Hobbs, who awarded her a plaque and a small cash prize for her accomplishment, according to a press release from the police department. Sponsorship for the contest and awards provided came from the police-fire department and Shanetta Moye, Washington Housing Authority.
National Night Out 2012 was Washington’s ninth year participating in the event, with the event being held in three different locations since 2004. More information about this community-oriented, family event can be found at www.natw.org/nno.
