Constance Ross Hammond

Mrs. Constance Ross Hammond, a resident of 129 Fairway Drive, Washington, NC died Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Zion Episcopal Church, Washington, officiated by The Reverend Barbara Chaffee. Interment will follow in the Prayer Garden of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Washington.
Mrs. Hammond was born on November 22, 1938, in Dorchester County, South Carolina to the late Harold and Gertrude Ross. A graduate of Limestone College with a Bachelor’s degree in English, Mrs. Hammond furthered her education at Oxford University in Oxford, England. She was a lifelong educator, serving as a librarian and teaching English in Rutherfordton, NC and  Raleigh, NC. After her retirement from teaching at Athens Drive High School in Raleigh, Mrs. Hammond moved to Washington, NC where she served as an adjunct English instructor at Beaufort County Community College until 2011. She was a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) and the North Carolina Association of Developmental Educators (NCADE). She was married to Dr. Frank M. Hammond, who preceded her in death on January 7, 2012.
Mrs. Hammond is survived by a son, Harold R. Helms, and his daughter, Madeline, of Macomb, MI; a stepson, Steven Hammond, and his wife, Dana, and their daughter, Taylor, of Tampa, FL; and a stepdaughter, Karen Hammond, and her daughter, Madison, of Raleigh, NC.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 14, 2012, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the home located at 129 Fairway Drive, Washington, NC 27889.
