Mrs. Geneva Elks Boyd, 96, of Greenville, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 2 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park. The family received friends Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Boyd, a former member of Maranatha Free Will Baptist Church, was an active member of Unity Free Will Baptist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. A longtime resident of Greenville, she was a devout Christian, who loved her family and friends and was dedicated to her church. She enjoyed caring and cooking for others and loved flowers.
Later in life, Mrs. Boyd was trained in Washington, D.C. in childcare and development with a focus on orphanage work. She was employed as a house mother at Kennedy House in Kinston and the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home in Middlesex.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Moye Boyd, Sr.; parents, Marshall and Annie Elks; brothers, Guy, Nyman, Roy, Glenn, Gilbert “Doc”, Nick, Gentry, and O.C. Elks; and sisters, Leutha Arnold, Lucy Arnold, and Mary Magdalene.
She is survived by her: daughter, Kathryn B. Vick and husband, Larry of Kinston; sons, Elbert M. Boyd, Jr. and wife, Ann, and Jerry W. Boyd and wife, Renee, all of Raleigh; granddaughter, Bethany Reeves and husband, Jared; grandsons, Tom, Trae and Drew Boyd, Bryan Cornett, Jason Vick and wife, Blair, and Mike Vick and wife, Georgia, who will serve as pallbearers; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Emma, Henry, Jack and Smith Vick, and Kori Cornett; sister, Frances E. Potter, of Chocowinity; brother, Richard “Dick” Elks, of Columbus, GA; brother-in-law, David Boyd, of Simpson; and many special nieces and nephews.
