Margaret “Potts” Harris

Ms. Margaret “Potts” Harris passed away at her home Thursday, November 23, 2012.
She was born on September 29, 1918, to the late Sylvester and Myrtle Chesson Lilley and was one of nine children. She married Alton Harris who passed away in 1967. She was a homemaker until Mr. Harris’ death in 1967. She then went to work at the Alpha Cleaners in Williamston. She later became a waitress at the Town and Country Restaurant. After the closing of the Town and Country Restaurant, she became a waitress at the Shamrock Restaurant where she retired in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her three brothers: Ralph Lilley, Sylvester Lilley, John Speight Lilley; her four sisters: Elizabeth Smith, Blanche Hardison, Lorena Furlough and Ruth Lilley. She has one surviving sister: Patti Rae Spruill of Roper.
She is survived by her set of twins, Ray Harris and wife Frankie of Stella and Faye Rogerson and husband Jerry of Bear Grass; four grandchildren, Al Harris and wife Lori of Wilmington, Jennifer Spencer and husband Michael of Washington, Jill Beck and husband Frank of Bear Grass and Brent Rogerson and wife Amy of Farmville; six great-grandchildren: Vance and Taylor Goodell, Courtney Adams and Jayme Spencer, Coby Beck and Addison and Lilley Rogerson.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 and funeral services will follow at Biggs Funeral Home on Sunday, November 25, 2012. The burial will be at Martin Memorial Gardens following the service. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Potts Harris, 5411 Bear Grass Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bear Grass Educational Foundation (Bear Grass Charter School) P.O. Box 869, Williamston, NC 27893.
