Mr. Dennis James Clark Sr., age 57, a resident of 195 Hodges Road, Chocowinity, died suddenly Thursday evening Dec. 13, 2012 at Washington County Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2012, at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington officiated by Pastor Ola Forbes, Jr. and Pastor John Mark Windley. Burial will follow in Ayden Cemetery. Dillion Haddock, Brandon Haddock, Hunter Corey, Bill Ambrose, Robert Merrill, Paul Bland and Danny McLawhorn will serve as pallbearers. Trey Corey and Billy Ray Clark will serve as honorary pallbearers. Matthew Sheldon will serve as an alternate pallbearer.
Mr. Clark was born in Beaufort County on November 23, 1955, son of the late Jesse Woodrow Clark, Sr. and Helen Arnold Clark. On February 17, 2001, he married the former Mareece “Recie” Gurley. He was a heavy equipment operator with Roberts Company and was also owner of Clark & Son Fence Company. In his younger years, he enjoyed rebuilding cars.
In addition to his wife, Recie, he is survived by his daughter: Peggy “Denise” Haddock and husband Brian of Calico; his son: Dennis James Clark, Jr., of Ayden; grandsons: Brandon and Dillion Haddock; stepchildren: Amy Gurley Corey and husband, Hardy Ray Corey, Jr. and Lee Gurley and wife Donna Daniels Gurley all of Chocowinity; step-grandchildren: Hunter Corey, Carlee Corey, Trey Corey, Jessica Cartwright, Makayla Daniels, Brett Carawan and Danielle Carawan; his brothers: Jesse Clark and wife Lydia of Washington, Bobby Clark and wife, Angela of Washington and Curtis Clark and wife, Diane of Newton Grove and his mother-in-law: Marlene Fancher of Chocowinity. He was preceded in death by first his wife, Virginia Dail Clark on December 24, 1999 ; his brother, Billy Ray Clark in October 2009 and his sister: Pansy Sue Clark.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home in Chocowinity.
