Mrs. Lucy Gray Smith, 96, died Monday, December 17, 2012.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Timothy Christian Church at Gardnersville. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Smith, a native of the Clayroot community, lived most of her life in Pitt County, and was a graduate of Chicod High School. For many years, she operated a beauty shop and was a member of Timothy Christian Church. She enjoyed quilting, reading, crossword puzzles and especially NASCAR.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Smith; and a number of brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, Gilbert L. Smith and wife, Nancy, of Belhaven; daughter, Nancy D. Smith and husband, Billy Ray, of Grimesland; grandchildren, Richard Todd Landon and wife, Mariea, of Lynn Haven, FL, Lee Smith, of Washington, and Joy S. Carawan and husband, Randy, of Bath; and great-grandchildren, Mitchel and Ryder.
The family would like to thank all of Mrs. Smith’s friends in the community for their help and assistance, especially Lennie Halstead and Mildred Smith.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 – 1:30 pm at the church.
