Charles Allen Hester, of Bayview, NC, passed away January 10, 2013. He was born September 25, 1924, in Goldsboro, NC, the youngest of three children and the only son of William and Nettie Grant Hester. He was raised at the Kennedy Home, joined the Navy where he was a radioman on a PBY Catalina and came back to enter Campbell College, in Buies Creek, NC, where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball and met his wife Margaret. After graduating, Charles went on to further his education at Atlantic Christian College now Barton College in Wilson, NC.
Charles was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Colston Hester; his parents; his sisters, Ruby Waddell and Mildred Craven; his son, William Austin Hester, and his
granddaughter, Lauren Allyn Braddy.
He is survived by his daughter Beverly Braddy Taylor and her husband Robert of Raleigh, NC; his son, Charles Allen Hester, Jr. and his wife Allison of Charlotte, NC, and his grandchildren, Kyle Austin Braddy of Charlotte and Mackenzie Hester, a student at ECU; his great-grandchildren, Colston David Braddy and Lauren Laine
Braddy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family holds dear all of the lessons learned from a man with the utmost integrity, kindness to others and unselfish love. He will be remembered as someone that always looked after those less fortunate and was the first to be there to help in his own quiet way. He was one of those few individuals that left the world a better place by being here.
The family would like to thank Amy Taffer, Stacy Bell, Tammy Leggett and the staff at Falls River Court in Raleigh for their kindness and care for Charles.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bath, NC where Charles was a member, c/o PO Box 257, Bath, NC 27808.
Funeral services will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bath, NC, Monday, January 21, at 1:00 PM.
