Agnes Sawyer Gibbs, 78, of 4549 Loop Road, The Sladesville Community, died late Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at
Cross Creek Health Care where she had been a patient
recently.
Born in Hyde County, she was the daughter of the late Harry Sawyer Sr. and Myrtle Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jackson “Bill” Gibbs.
Mrs. Gibbs was a lifelong member of Eunice Chapel Church of Christ where she served as secretary/treasurer of the church for more than 40 years and served as precinct worker for many years for Hyde County Board of Elections and later as a precinct judge. She spent her working time as an Avon representative for 40 years.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Eunice Chapel Church of Christ with Thomas S. Biggs, G.C. Richards and Phillip Paul officiating. Burial will follow in the Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Murl J. Gibbs of the home; two brothers, Harry Sawyer, Jr. and Georgie Sawyer both of Sladesville; five sisters, Shelby S. Williams and Rebecca S. Davenport both of Sladesville, Linda S. Modlin of Pinetown, Sandra S. Brooks of Edenton and Myrtle S. Kirk of Belhaven.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Sawyer.

The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter on Saturday evening, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and other times at the home.
