Mary “Ruth” Whichard Morris

Mrs. Ruth Whichard Morris, a resident of Orange Park, FL, died January 9, 2013. A graveside service was held January 14, 2013, in Orange Park, FL.
Ruth was born in Chicod, NC, and later grew up at Whichard’s Beach in Washington, NC, as part of a large family including three brothers and four sisters. She graduated from Chocowinity High School in a class of 14. Ruth’s family owned and operated Whichard’s Beach and Marina where she worked at the Beach House as well as a soda jerk at a local drug store in Washington, NC. In 1943 Ruth met and married Harry G. Morris where for 22 years they raised five children in Jacksonville, FL. In 1970 they moved to Orange Park, FL, where Ruth spent her life out for 43 wonderful years.
Ruth was preceded in death by her father William Henry Whichard, mother Lizzie Mobley Whichard Prophet, husband Harry G. Morris, one son, two daughters, one granddaughter, and sister Gladys Whichard Crisp. Survivors include her son Pete Morris, daughter Peggy Porter of Orange Park, FL, brothers Warren Whichard, Billy Whichard and Bobby Whichard, all of Chocowinity, NC, and sisters Peggy Woolard and Ginger Paramore of Washington,NC, and a number of nieces and nephews.,
