Mr. Albert Edward Sheppard, Jr., age 86, a resident of S. Asbury Church Rd., Washington, NC, died on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, March 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Rev. Sam Grist. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery with Masonic Rites and military honors. Members of the Masonic Lodge will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC and other times at the home.
Mr. Sheppard was born in Beaufort County on January 30, 1927 son of the late Albert Edward and Evelyn Baker Sheppard. He graduated from Washington High School and Oak Ridge Military Institute and later worked in the insurance business. Mr. Sheppard retired from Life & Casualty Insurance Co. as manager. He married Joyce Andrews Sheppard who preceded him in death on March 15, 2001. He later married Lee Giles Sheppard who survives. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #104, York Rite and Shriners. Mr. Sheppard served his country in the Navy.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons, Albert E. “Eddie” Sheppard and wife Frances Pittman Sheppard and Stephen Baker Sheppard both of Washington; his grandchildren, Carol Sheppard and Edward Scott Sheppard; his great grandchildren, Cameron Matkins and Latham Matkins; and his sister, Polly Jones of Washington.
