Mr. Billy Russ Darrow, age 64, a resident of 301 Christian Service Camp Road, Washington, NC, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Washington, NC officiated by the Rev. Jay Martin. Buri- al will be private. The family invites all to join them fol- lowing the service for a cookout celebrating Billy’s life at the Riverside Community Lot on Riverside Road in
Washington, NC. Casual purple attire is encouraged. Mr. Darrow was born on July 9, 1948 in Houma, Louisiana to the late Charles Walker Darrow and Al- lene Woolard Darrow. The Darrow family moved to Washington when Billy was six months old. He was a 1966 graduate of Washington High School and a 1970 graduate of East Carolina University. Mr. Darrow served as Broker in Charge at Century 21 Real Estate of Washington for twenty years. He also owned and operated several businesses in the Washington area. Mr. Darrow was an active member of the Pirate Club, a former president of the Washington Jaycees, State Director of the NC Jaycees, served on the Washing- ton City Council, and was an active member of the
Church of the Good Shepherd in Washington, NC. Billy loved the river and the beach, and was a whole- hearted ECU Pirate fan. He will be remembered for his quick wit, his special love for his children and grandchildren, and his unrelenting ministry of food, as he often served his church family by manning the grill. Toward the end of his life, Billy experienced a personal renaissance of faith, and his last days were
fullofjoy. Mr. Darrow is survived by his children: Russ Dar-
row of Atlanta, GA., Dodi Darrow Konigsmark and husband Andy and their children, Emmi Claire and Crew of Telluride, CO; and Caroline Darrow Collie and husband Mark and their children, Asher, Blake and Arabella all of Washington, NC; his girlfriend, Claudia Beamon of Morehead City, NC; his former wife, Claire Lewis Darrow of Washington, NC and his faithful dog Buc.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the “Darrow Children’s College Fund” established for his grandchildren, C/O Church of the Good Shepherd, 2425 Market Street Extension, Washington, NC 27889.
