There will be plenty for children to do at Friday’s Music in the Streets.
For the first time, entertainment will include amusements on Respess Street for children. Washington’s James McCollum Amusements will set up a Zrider, castle-bounce slide, obstacle course and balloon-bouncer slide. The rides will cost $1 to $2 a person per ride.
The ever-popular local teen rock band K-Os will also perform at Main and Respess streets.
“So, we’ll have a nice little kids section. He’s (McCollum) fully insured, which I love, and he has a good community spirit,” said Beth Byrd with the Washington Harbor District Alliance.
Another new addition for Friday’s Music in the Streets is Community Homecare and Hospice. It will offer free blood-pressure checks in front of the Turnage Theater.
Pecheles Motors will sponsor another Down East Rods and Classics car show.
Rock band Stairwell will make its first appearance at MITS.
“They’re out of Greenville, where they’ve really developed a fan base,” Byrd said. “We’re lucky to have them.”
The last time David Cox played at MITS, he had people dancing in the streets.
“Everybody loved him. He does beach music and just some good dancing songs,” said LaVon Drake, one of the event organizers.
Erin Lewis will return, as will Larry Jefferson. He sings traditional Christian music and ballads. Jefferson’s last MITS appearance was two or three years ago. MITS organizers have received many requests for his return.
Unshackled, a bluegrass and gospel acoustic act, is scheduled to appear. Men of Faith, a Christian band, will perform across from Big Bargain Furniture.
MITS, a free monthly mini-music festival, runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. The final MITS of the season is scheduled Oct. 18, the first night of Smoke on the Water.
