A candidates forum featuring most of those seeking the mayor’s seat or a seat on the five-member City Council in Washington is set for Oct. 24.

The forum, organized by the Beaufort County Republican Club, will be conducted at Apollo’s Steakhouse in downtown Washington (228 Stewart Parkway). The forum begins at 6:45 p.m., but forum attendees wishing to dine before the forum should arrive at the restaurant no later than 6 p.m. The restaurant will be closed to the public that night to accommodate the forum.

All candidates have been invited to participate in the forum. As of Wednesday afternoon, Ty Carter, Richard Brooks, Lloyd May, Doug Mercer, Bobby Roberson and Larry Beeman accepted invitations to the forum. Gil Davis cannot attend the forum. As of Wednesday afternoon, William Pitt had not responded.

“The event will be very informative to the citizens of Beaufort County,” according to Al Klemm, program director for the Beaufort County Republican Club.

A news release issued by the club notes that Washington, the main city in Beaufort County, affects other areas in the county in several ways, including the following:

• recreation, waterfront, downtown;

• Civic Center and events;

• athletic fields;

• services;

• restaurants and shopping.
